| Description | PURPOSE OF COURSE: This one day, 8-hour course has been designed to provide the students with the knowledge and skill to understand the Hispanic criminal street gang subculture and the criminal organization known as the Mexican Mafia. . COURSE DESCRIPTION: This 8-hour course will cover two primary topics. Firstly, the course will review the “Southern Hispanic” criminal street gang subculture, which has permeated throughout most States in the Country. A review of the history of Southern Hispanic street gangs will be conducted, along with learning common identifiers, common tattoos, alliances, rivalries, and the connection to the Mexican Mafia criminal organization. Secondly, the course will examine the Mexican Mafia to include the history, structure, common identifiers, control of the streets, and control of the prison system. Case studies/debriefs with video, audio, and photos will be utilized to highlight and solidify material being taught by the instructor.
GOALS: The Goals of the Course are as follows · Understand the history of southern Hispanic street gangs · Learn the difference between the north and the south relative to street gangs · Learn how the Mexican Mafia and the Nuestra Familia control street gangs · Learn the rivalries and alliances in the street gang world · Learn the various symbols relative to street gangs · Learn how southern street gangs further assist and promote the Mexican Mafia · Learn the history of the Mexican Mafia · Learn the structure of the Mexican Mafia · Understand the role and identifiers of a “Made” Mexican Mafia member · Learn the role and identifiers of Mexican Mafia soldiers · Understand the role of women and secretaries in the Mexican Mafia · Understand the role of civilian facilitators assisting the Mexican Mafia · Review Mexican Mafia threats to law enforcement
