Hostage Rescue and Immediate Action

PURPOSE OF COURSE:  A four day course to provide essential end-user level skills for officers to provide direct action during hostage situations. The curriculum is based on tasks related to the critical initial 60-90 minutes of a hostage crisis [the most volatile] and recognizing that dedicated hostage rescue teams are typically not on site during that time frame. It provides a diverse set tactics, techniques, and procedures to handle an emergency rescue, recover released or escaped hostages a repulse compromise. The methods presented derive directly from proven tactics confirmed in real-world applications.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:  Day one begins with a classroom session covering essential topics to facilitate the the course and provide core legal foundation for use of force and warrantless entries.. The remainder of the day concentrates on range drills and exercises to refine weapon handling skills and accuracy standards needed for close quarter shooting. Basic skills for dynamic room clearing are conducted on rope drill facades are a origin for shoot house exercise on the next day.

Day two is entirely done in the shoothouse using SIMS/AirSoft. The session begins with fundamental skills for breaching using training facades and apply skills to emergency and deliberate conditions. Training then moves to dynamic room clearing exercises with iterations on various room configurations and variable size small teams. Use of full color photo targets inserted to provide threat discrimination training.

Day three continues in the shoothouse with addition room clearing on more complex floor plans and the incorporation of distraction devices. Training continues with re-organization task as follow on actions to provide post-rescue control and transition to investigative functions. The day concludes with scenario based exercises using role players to confirm skills.
