Less Lethal Shotgun Instructor

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course a mix of classroom instruction, range sessions and activity based learning. The class begins in the classroom with contextual and legal blocks of instruction to set a base for preliminary training programs. The curriculum progresses into instructor development on core topics for teaching core topics. Instructor candidates receive and participate in range programs in a progressive format- from essential skills to employment protocols. Each block of instruction builds on the previous. At the end of major subject matter blocks, candidates conduct a teach-back session on a selected topic. Candidates are responsible for, explanation of subject matter, demonstration of skill set, and range operations with a short course of fire.

Recognizing that shotgun usage is currently an uncommon practice for may agencies, a portion of the curriculum focuses on core skills for safe and pragmatic use of this platform.

Additional topics includes a session to develop standards for practical use; testing the kinetic ammunition supplied by the agency to determine accuracy parameters and operational limits within realistic conditions. Two officer tactics conclude the course with procedures for post shooting management including duty to render aid and officer safety.

The tactics, technique and procedure shown in this course apply to both patrol level and tactical team operations.
